Our founder and director, Jackie Kubica-Aronoff, has been practicing yoga since 1998, following a miscarriage. However, it was after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2005 that she began to use her daily yoga practice as a tool to heal her body. It was through that practice that she learned to use yoga to heal her mind and spirit as well. When she was first diagnosed with FM, she weighed over 200 pounds and was unable to walk in the grocery store for more than 20 minutes; with patience and dedication, less than 4 years later she participated in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, completing a marathon in just over 8 hours. Going through periods of being overweight and feeling self-conscious about not having a “typical yoga body”, she practiced exclusively at home for the first 11 years by watching DVDs; she attended her first live class when she began her first yoga teachers training program in 2009. That is when she was first introduced to yoga philosophy, namely the yamas and niyamas, and how they could help alleviate suffering. She realized that by only practicing asana (poses) she had been practicing just an eighth of what yoga could offer; it felt like having two hands and only having used a finger or two until then. She realized the true transformative and healing power that yoga could bring to the mental and emotional aspects, in addition the physical body. Yoga has helped her deal with many of life’s challenges, such as dealing with trauma, abuse, grief, divorce, financial loss, physical injury, and illness – including COVID-19.
Given her history, Jackie specializes in Gentle, Restorative, and beginning levels of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, especially for those who are new to yoga, who are recovering from illness or injury, or who are dealing with chronic health conditions. Since 2014, she has been honored to be a yoga instructor at the Monte Nido and Associates group of eating disorder centers. She gives precise directions and cues so her students can confidently and safely execute poses in ways that are appropriate for their individual body’s needs. She also believes that yoga should be fun, encourages building community with other students, and teaches all eight limbs of yoga in her asana classes – including yoga philosophy, breath work, mindfulness and meditation – using mantra, mudras and kirtan.
Coming from her personal experience with chronic pain and knowing how beneficial yoga can be to alleviate it, she was inspired to share that knowledge with others. Being a yoga instructor and Reiki practitioner is one of the most rewarding and incredible things she has done in her life. She knows with certainty that she is living her life’s purpose, and that she is incredibly fortunate to love her job! It just took until she was 39 for that to happen.
She believes that no matter what your physical limitations, yoga can help you heal yourself – to realize your full potential, and to radiate that out into your life.
From our Founder and Director, Jackie Kubica-Aronoff
A Radiant Life was established in Los Angeles on the Summer Solstice of 2010 as a place to promote the health, healing, and wellbeing of its students – in mind body and spirit. For the first ten years, it was a boutique, in-home studio with a single instructor and a maximum of 7 students per class. The global pandemic of 2020 and the societal shift to virtual classes in order to comply with governmental restrictions for social distancing to protect public health offered us an interesting opportunity – not only to move to a virtual platform, but to expand our services to include teachers from around the country! Our classes can now be live-streamed FROM anywhere TO anywhere, and they are also recorded for our students to view at their leisure. Anyone can now have access to A Radiant Life 24 hours a day!
Personally, yoga has helped me deal with many of life’s challenges, including fibromyalgia, trauma, abuse, grief, divorce, financial loss, being overweight, physical injury, and illness – including COVID-19. As a physical empath, running a studio out of my home was ideal for small group classes or individual sessions. After completing my Reiki instruction, I found that it enhanced the work I was doing as a yoga instructor, and I have been working to bring physical and emotional healing to my students ever since.
With the 2020 global pandemic which shut down all in-person yoga and fitness centers, it became clear that A Radiant Life needed to change. My daughter, Elizabeth, encouraged me to take the studio virtual. Thus began the shift to an online platform for yoga, Reiki, and wellness consultations. It also began a beautiful mother-daughter partnership, with me as the director and Elizabeth as the studio manager.
With Elizabeth’s help and encouragement, I soon realized that this platform we were creating had plenty of room for others. Over the years, I had met many incredible, talented people who had huge hearts and healing gifts to share. I had wanted to work with them, but because of geographical distance or the small size of my studio, that had seemed unlikely. However, with a virtual studio, what had seemed impossible suddenly was possible! Within a month, our staff of one became a staff of ten-plus, as we took what had been a single light of A Radiant Life in Los Angeles and spread it out across the United States during the most tumultuous time in recent history. As we approached the tenth anniversary of A Radiant Life, suddenly it was expanding in ways I had never imagined! I am so excited to see how we will continue to grow and bring love, healing, and well-being to the world.
In addition to classes in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, we offer Restorative, Gentle, meditation, breath work, and Yoga Nidra. We have yoga paired with Hula and Qigong, as well as ecstatic dance for Journey Dance. We are proud to offer Yoga Tune Up and Roll Model classes for self-massage; and we are home to the Love Bubble technique for emotional healing. Some of our staff have specialized training to teach all ages from children to seniors! So, if you are looking for something specific or something different than the run-of-the-mill yoga studio, you will find it here!
As I and the other teachers and practitioners share our stories, the story itself is not what happened to us, but rather how we responded. A healer must learn to heal themselves before they can help others to heal.
“A healer does not heal you. A healer is someone who holds space for you while you awaken your inner healer so that you may heal yourself.”
Maryam Hasana
